Covid Refuge Renovation in Greenwich, Connecticut!

It goes without being said, but we’ll say it anyway: Covid has impacted (and continues to impact!) the lives of working Americans in a multitude of ways; continually adding an unexpected twist to our now long-gone sense of normalcy.

For example, for many Manhattanites, The City lost much of its luster after the pandemic took its own residence there. In a general sense, NYC became an empty shell of what it once was… undoubtedly painful for the New Yorker who was so accustomed to that unrelenting bustle that is now nowhere to be found.

Conversely, Fairfield and Westchester County suburbs experienced a market frenzy. Bidding wars have started to plague the housing market in these communities. Purchase offerers are oftentimes seen clambering over each other for a deal like hungry hyenas. And why? Post-pandemic circumstances put the city lifestyle up for reevaluation! Strangers in their own home, New Yorkers have flocked to the suburbs [within a commutable radius] after Covid robbed a lot of them of what made them love The City in the first place. The housing markets outside of “The 347” offer additional personal space, optimized “per square foot” value, along with many other facets that are hard to come by in the Big Apple.

The caveat in a seller’s market like the one Covid catalyzed in these suburbs? Selling a home is expedited and the need for presale updates is minimized. There is little need for a seller to be flexible at negotiation, either. Why bend over and replace this, that and the third before closing when 4 other attractive and much more lenient offers are at their fingertips? We have seen “knock-me-down” homes sold far above asking price, a troubling market trend for the buyer seeking a family home that checks all of the boxes at move-in.

Over a decade ago, M&M Constructions began to establish notoriety by providing unparalleled renovation services for colonial NYC-suburb homes, more specifically in Fairfield County. While the structural integrity and timelessness of older homes is often a selling point, most homeowners still seek to improve upon and personalize their investment. After all, if you have to live in it, why not make it yours? For a Manhattan transplant, the transition between a trendy flat and a historic saltbox colonial is daunting enough, so it’s important to find ways to integrate personal style into their new home. This is where M&M’s team is indispensable for not only a New Yorker seeking pandemic refuge, but any homebuyer looking to update an existing space. Because of our versatility, and more notably, experience, in re-vamping traditional homes, M&M boasts an impressive renovation portfolio. We are an immensely professional team of builders who understands what different home owners want and need.

Back to NYC exodus, a family doing just that trusted us to renovate their new home in Riverside, Greenwich, Connecticut. Although new to them, the 1960s construction needed some updates; namely bathroom and kitchen renovations. In updating older Connecticut homes, these are two of the most important rooms to look at. Not many fixtures show age in a home as much as cabinets, countertops and faucet hardware. We are pleased to share how our team was able to replace much of the dated interior with something much more conducive to a modernized style. We think we were pretty effective in integrating an NYC contemporary vibe as well… check it out!

We are seeing a lot of trendier bathrooms employ concrete-look tiles in decorative panels, walls, floors, etc. This a part of what gave this bathroom reno its vogue feel.

Compared to the master bath (above), this is the yin to the yang, so to speak. This bright, minimalistic bathroom remodel works beautifully in contrast with that of the the master.

We have seen quite a few homeowners modernize their kitchens in recent months. Monochromatic palates, clean lines in cabinetry and glossy accents all seem to be the preferred stylistic choices this season.

Whose to say everything has to be minimalistic, though? We loved this foyer light fixture.
